Courses run from 10.30am - 4.30pm

at Langcliffe Hall, nr Settle

The day is hosted by Charlotte & Mark, the current custodians of the house and gardens. Group sizes are limited to allow for plenty of time to ask questions and have a quiet, more private experience of the garden.

We’ll begin the day with a guided tour of the formal gardens, wildflower meadows, orchards and animal enclosures, where you’ll learn the history of the garden and how it has developed over the years, the importance of native plant restoration, biodiversity, and natural beekeeping. We will discuss woodland management, coppicing and wood processing, before moving to the Victorian walled kitchen garden. Here we will explore companion planting, medicinal herbs, and practical ways to create harmony between productivity and aesthetics — whatever the size of your garden.

After a garden-grown lunch served in the historic hall, the afternoon will offer deeper learning. A talk will cover key principles and methods behind the garden's abundant harvests: compost teas, no-dig growing, propagation, and seed saving. You’ll then enjoy a hands-on propagation session.

Throughout the day, there will be time to wander, reflect, and soak in the beauty of the landscape. Whether you're dreaming of your first vegetable patch or tending a flourishing garden of your own, this day offers both inspiration and grounded, practical knowledge.
